Eyre Writers Inc., established in 1986, is a support group for writers based in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Members share a common belief in the importance of the written word; we strive constantly to improve our writing, and by meeting regularly we help one another to maintain enthusiasm for writing and for achieving the goals we set ourselves.

We hold two daytime meetings each month, on the first and third Wednesdays, starting at 1.00 pm in the Green Room at the Port Lincoln Civic Hall Complex, entering from Washington Street. Non-members are welcome as observers at our meetings.

We hold one night meeting a month at 7:30pm at nominated venues.

We send out a monthly newsletter to members with information and reminders on meetings and other events.  Some pieces of our writings also go into this newsletter so that all members can share them.

Among Eyre Writers we have writers of non-fiction, poetry, short stories, and novelists in various genres. Some members have been published in literary journals. In addition, we regularly publish collections of our own work, the literary equivalent of an art group’s exhibition.

We arrange and run workshops, some for one day only, some live-in over a weekend. When we can afford them, we arrange for visiting tutors to show us how to improve our skills in our chosen art form; when we can’t, a committee arranges for a stimulating program of exercises to inspire us to explore new ways in our work. 

We run a literary competition every year, advertised Australia-wide. There are four categories for submissions, with a prize of $200 for the winner of each: for details see under the ‘Competitions’ tab.

Yearly subscriptions are at $25.00, which entitles a member to attend meetings and workshops, and to submit pieces for the newsletter and our next collection. The fee is set at our Annual General Meeting, held on the third Wednesday of August each year.
